Understand the envelope

The roof, facades and openings separate indoor spaces from outdoors. WBDG describes moisture management as a combination of limiting water entry, allowing drainage and enabling drying. A single visible surface therefore does not describe the building’s whole protection strategy.

Ask useful questions

Ask the designer how roof-to-wall junctions, thresholds and drainage are addressed. Also ask how components requiring inspection will be reached. These questions help you understand the project, rather than design a solution yourself. Details must suit the site and building.

Plan maintenance from handover

Keep handover documents, material references and the maintenance instructions received. For easier follow-up, we suggest a dated log of observations and interventions. If damp marks return, photograph their evolution and have the cause investigated before repainting. A new finish can hide a symptom without resolving its source.
